As the California drought continues, many water districts locally are offering incentives to customers who replace thirsty lawns with drought tolerant landscaping. Because Flair Cares, we’d like to introduce you to The Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants. The nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, established 1960, is dedicated to the understanding, preservation and use of California native flora. The Foundation preserves the legacy and carries on the work of Theodore Payne, a pioneering Los Angeles nurseryman, horticulturist and conservationist widely considered to be the father of the native plant movement in California.
This local Foundation was recently featured on NPR’s Marketplace in a segment called, “Drought-resistant gardens can be more than gravel.” This piece explains that by using native plants, gardens can bloom with color despite drought conditions. To learn more, listen to the segment or visit the foundation at http://theodorepayne.org.
